Khayal Darpan

This film discovers the effect of partition on classical music in South Asia. Delhi-based filmmaker Yousuf Saeed spent about 6 months in Pakistan in 2005. After traveling in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad he interviewed musicians and scholars, attending concerts and observing the teaching of music in various institutions. He raises important questions about cultural identity, nationalism, the legitimacy of music in Islam, popular culture in Pakistan, Pakistan's affairs with India, and classical music's general survival in South Asia.
